# Channels

Each channel is a private workspace centered around a live stream. Every channel has a name, some optional notes, a theme (the system theme is the default) and a list of allowed Groups, Clients and Creators. This can be edited to allow/revoke access to channels as needed, or to enable automatic recording.

In this example, we have a channel with a number of ways to access it:

* Any member of "The Californians" group can see the channel.
* Isaac, Ketty, Linda and Tarzan can see the channel.

**More on Channels:**

* New users have access to nothing by default, unless you have allowed all clients / creators on one or more existing channels.
* Channels can receive one incoming stream at a time. If you attempt to connect a second stream to a channel which is already live, the stream connection will be rejected.
* When a channel is deleted, any chat messages, annotations, recordings, file uploads and restreams associated with that channel are also deleted. Be sure to save anything you want to keep before deleting a channel!
* Automatic Recording is not recommended for channels that are live for long periods of time, because a 'blip' in the stream can create a potential false positive and stop the recording.
* Streamwell v1.8.7 adds an option "Allow Creators to edit name/notes" - with this option activated, creators can simply click the name or notes within a channel to rename it on the fly. Admins always have this capability.
